The Kids 4 Hope Mobile Campaign Benefits Pediatric Cancer Research and Treatment at City of Hope

San Bernardino, California (Tuesday, January 15, 2008) - Stater Bros. Markets is pleased to announce that its customers and employees recently raised $133,495 to benefit pediatric cancer programs at City of Hope, a leading research and treatment institution for cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

“Spreading hope to young cancer patients and awareness of pediatric cancer through the City of Hope ‘Kids 4 Hope’ campaign is a very important mission for our company,” said Jim Lee, Stater Bros. President and Chief Operating Officer. “City of Hope’s advanced research and treatments have helped boost survival rates of children with cancer to 80 percent today, from just 10 to 20 percent 20 years ago. Stater Bros. is proud to support this effort to win the fight against pediatric cancer.”

During the month of October 2007 customers and employees at all 164 Stater Bros. Supermarkets were able to purchase $1 “Kids 4 Hope” mobiles which were available at each check out counter. In Stater Bros.’ fifth year of participation, this was the largest amount ever raised and was a 30 percent increase over last year.

  • A check presentation took place on Thursday, January 10, at the Stater Bros. Supermarket located at 1145 E. Alosta Avenue in Azusa, California.
  • The Azusa Stater Bros. Supermarket collected the most money in this Company-wide fund raising campaign.
  • The $133,495 check was presented to Tami Case, Administrative Director of Pediatrics, City of Hope and Cheryl Kennick, Senior Director of Development, City of Hope Food Industries Circle.

“Kids 4 Hope” is a fundraising program initiated by members of the Food Industries Circle for City of Hope to benefit children battling life-threatening diseases at City of Hope. The Southern California Food Industries Circle for City of Hope is one of the largest industry volunteer support programs for City of Hope and includes more than 1,000 leading retailers (including Stater Bros.), manufacturers, and brokers in the food industry.
