What is Stater Bros. Charities?

Stater Bros. Charities is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that supports critical needs in the communities where Stater Bros. employees live and work.

Since 2008, Stater Bros. Charities has provided funding to countless local organizations and programs which benefit hunger relief, children’s well-being, education, health, and help for our nation’s veterans and active service members. 

Where does the money go?

All funds donated to Stater Bros. Charities are donated back into the communities served by Stater Bros. Markets. 

How do I know what communities you serve?

Stater Bros. Charities supports local nonprofit organizations where Stater Bros. Markets are located which include San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange, Los Angeles, San Diego, Kern and Ventura Counties. 

My organization is based in a community you serve, but our work is in Arizona. Can I still apply for a grant?

Unfortunately, no.  All nonprofits must serve people in our communities.

Who is eligible to apply?

Stater Bros. Charities accepts applications from 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that provide services in the local communities served by Stater Bros. Markets. 

When does Stater Bros. Charities accept grant requests?

Stater Bros. Charities accepts and reviews requests throughout the year.

What organizations does Stater Bros. Charities donate to?

Stater Bros. Charities supports local nonprofit organizations whose mission is aligned with our initiatives:

  • Hunger Relief
  • Children’s Well-being
  • Education
  • Health 
  • Veterans/Active Service Members

What type of organizations or projects would Stater Bros. Charities not fund?

  • Individuals 
  • For-profit organizations
  • Political organizations or activities
  • Capital or building campaigns
  • Activities that do not give back to the local communities served by Stater Bros. Markets
  • In-kind donations
  • Athletic programs or athletic events
  • Meetings, conferences or workshops
  • Travel expenses, student trips or tours
  • Animal-related programs 
  • Organizations that deny service to a potential client or beneficiary on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, sexual orientation, age, national origin, ancestry, citizenship, veteran, or disability status
  • Organizations that do not have a current tax-exempt status under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue code

Does Stater Bros. Charities donate food?

No, Stater Bros. Charities only makes monetary contributions to nonprofit organizations that meet a major need in the community at large.

Does Stater Bros. Charities donate to individuals? 

No, Stater Bros. Charities does not donate to individuals.

Can I request a product donation or gift cards instead of a grant?

No, only monetary grants are available through Stater Bros. Charities.

I'm running a race and looking for sponsors. Can Stater Bros. Charities sponsor me?

No, Stater Bros. Charities does not sponsor individuals.

Do you provide seed money?

No, Stater Bros. Charities only donates to programs and services.

Does Stater Bros. Charities donate to building projects?

No, Stater Bros. Charities only donates to programs and services.

What is a typical grant amount?

Grants are typically smaller than larger and usually range from $2,000 to $10,000.

How do I apply?

To apply for a grant, you must fill out an application.  Along with your application, please mail a copy of your W-9, Tax Exempt Letter and most recent 990 Form (if applicable) to the Stater Bros. Charities office.

When will I find out if I’ve received the grant?

Organizations can generally expect to receive a repsonse within 90 days of submitting the application.

Can I apply for more than one grant from Stater Bros. Charities?

We typically limit our funding to once per calendar year.
